I am very fortunate to be a stay at home mom. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I was up for the challenge. Staying at home with my boys is a dream come true. It’s not always rainbows and unicorns, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Being a stay at home mom is awesome and I love that I get to watch my boys grow everyday. Sometimes though, I just feel like I need a vacation from the cleaning, laundry, and screaming of children.
1. Quality “Me Time”
Take time for yourself. As a mom it is important to treat yourself. We can’t feel guilty for wanting time to ourselves. Like I said in my post 5 Ways to Become a More Patient Mom, I love “me time.” I need my “me time.” Moms need their time too! Don’t get me wrong, my boys are my everything, but if I don’t take a time out, I start to get a little crazy. Plan a movie date or maybe have some quiet time in your “go to place”. My “go to place” is the gym. They have a daycare and I am able to get an awesome 2 hour work out in. Whatever it is you like to do, make sure you take time to make it happen. It will be totally worth it!
2. Find a Hobby
Find something that you enjoy doing, something that makes you happy. After I had Thomas, I started to DIY. Almost all the decorations for Thomas and Liam’s first birthdays were DIY. There was this old changing table/dresser I had for the boys that was falling apart, so I took it apart and used the wood to make wall art. My favorite DIY I ever did would probably have to be my mason jar bathroom set. I am always on pinterest searching for new projects I may want to try. Even though I don’t have as much time as I did when I only had one child, I still do little projects, they just take longer.
3. Get out of the House
Just because you are a stay at home mom doesn’t mean you have to necessarily stay at home. I love to take the boys to the park, especially when it is a warm, sunny day to play or maybe even have a picnic. Since my family lives in the same city, we love to visit them. During the winter, I like to take the boys to indoor play places. They aren’t expensive and you can come and go as you please. We like to go to farmers markets and festivals where there is a lot of food to eat. I always check out Vegas family events to see what upcoming kids events are happening for the month. If you don’t live in Las Vegas, I’m sure there are event websites in your area.
4. Get Ready Everyday
In my experience, getting up and getting ready just makes you feel better about yourself. People always say “if you look good, you feel good.” Treat your stay at home mom job just like a regular job. If you are dressed, hair done, makeup done, you will be ready for whatever the day throws at you. I know that sometimes things pop up and I have to leave the house for a quick trip to the grocery store and by that time, I really don’t feel like getting ready. I always find it easier to get ready in the morning, so if I do need to leave the house, I am ready to go.
5. Find a Mom Group
There are so many mom groups out there to get involved with. Joining a mom group gives you a chance to meet people who are just like you, but it also gives your kids the opportunity to make new friends. In mom groups, they usually meet at least once a week and do different activities every week. Mom groups are awesome! You can search for different types of Mom groups on MeetUp and filter them by likes and regions.
I know that I am not a perfect mom and I definitely deal with the day to day struggles of being a stay at home mom. I also know that being a stay at home mom is the best job in the world. Actually, I wouldn’t call it job, I would call it an opportunity of a lifetime. Don’t drive yourself crazy by not asking for help or a time out. We don’t have to have it all together every hour of everyday. Save your sanity and TAKE A BREAK!!! 🙂
